Christmas Caring Program

Christmas Caring/Community Sharing

KCCU Supports our Community

The KCCU Christmas Caring Program has been going strong for over twenty-five years assisting over 900 members and their families with Christmas. The program evolved from an annual staff gift exchange and blossomed into a co-operative community program of “people helping people”.  Christmas Caring is designed to help those members who have encountered personal economic hardship over the past year due to illness, layoff, job loss, underemployment or limited income. Throughout the year funds are raised for the food hampers through various fundraising events.

Early in December our branches “Giving Trees” are adorned with “Angel” cards for our staff and members to take and generously provide a gift or donation to help support the program.  Many prefer to make a cash donation to help purchase groceries for the hampers.  Our goal is to provide a food hamper to each family along with the gifts for the children. A few years ago we also added a few Senior “Angels” to our trees in an effort to include a small gift with their hamper.  What a success and how wonderful it is to let an ill or very limited income senior know that someone cares!  It is inspiring to see how generous and caring our Credit Union Members and staff are. Thank you for all those who have contributed to the program!

KCCU’s Social and Fundraising committee has spearheaded the Community Sharing Program a few years ago.  The program is designed to help support our community and its partner organizations. The Committee, supported by staff, Board and interested members help community organizations by providing financial and volunteer support. It is the Committee’s goal to help both members and the community at large. Each Christmas season and throughout the year, the Committee reaches out and provides support such as purchasing gifts and stockings for the children at Interval House, collecting hats and mitts for St. Vincent de Paul, purchasing and collecting 568 pairs of socks for Socks Kingston, bake sales to support organizations such as Kingston Humane Society, Loving Spoonful, Kingston 4Paws, KFLA Alzheimer Society and the Kingston YMCA.
